Wildlife Art Society of Australasia Inc.

Mission Statement

The Wildlife Art Society of Australasia was founded in Melbourne in 1974. It aims to foster the study, practice and appreciation of wildlife art in all media, to encourage the exchange of ideas and experience in this field, and to promote the work of wildlife artists. The spirit of the society lies in its recognition of animals and plants as worthy sources of inspiration and themes for serious art and, indeed, as being among the oldest subjects of artistic expression.
The portrayal of the natural world in art has always reflected some of the broader characteristics of the age in which it occurs. Especially it reflects a contemporary view of nature, and this, experienced through the eyes of the artist, may enlarge our vision of life. Therefore work in Society's Annual Exhibition may exemplify the naturalistic or interpretative mode.
The society has a special interest in the fostering, through art, a greater awareness, understanding and appreciation of Australia's unique indigenous flora and fauna.Meetings held monthly, with informative lectures on the subjects related to both art and natural world, are open to members and visitors. Each member receives a quarterly newsletter detailing the various activities and opportunities available within and outside the Society.
All who support the Society's aims are eligible to apply for membership. Junior membership is available for persons under 18 years of age. Inquiries are welcome.
